About Kristina Pedersen, MA, IBCLC

My path to becoming a lactation consultant began with my academic foundation in health promotion and international development. After earning my Master’s degree from the University of London, I discovered my calling in maternal and child health through my work with UNICEF and the World Health Organization.

In 2011, I founded Mamá Canguro, Paraguay’s first private lactation consulting practice, where I served thousands of families from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds. This experience taught me that every family’s journey is unique, and personalized support makes all the difference.

Since relocating to New York in 2022, I’ve continued my mission closer to home, working with families across Long Island and the NYC metropolitan area while maintaining my commitment to accessible, culturally sensitive care.

Kristina’s Past Clients Say…

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Kristina! She was so professional, kind, and compassionate from the moment we met. She really took the time to listen to all of my concerns and made me feel completely heard and supported. Her knowledge and attention to detail were amazing, and she quickly helped identify the issue and provide exactly the guidance I needed. I never felt rushed, and she was so patient and reassuring throughout the entire experience. Thanks to her help, we were able to solve the latching and feeding problem, and I have been feeling so much more confident and relieved. I would absolutely recommend her to anyone looking for caring and knowledgeable lactation support!

Kristina came to help at exactly the right time. We were struggling with the transition of my milk coming in and getting our baby to latch, and she quickly helped us work through both challenges. She shared an incredible amount of knowledge while providing genuine care and support. Kristina also introduced different techniques to help me feel more relaxed and comfortable during feedings. We left feeling so much more confident, with practical skills we’ve already been using and that have made our lives noticeably easier. I truly couldn’t recommend her more!

Kristina has been tremendously helpful to me in my breastfeeding journey, particularly with learning how to properly latch my baby and getting into different positions to reduce strain on my body. We went from primarily pumping and bottle feeding to almost exclusively nursing right after her first visit – it was as if she had cast a spell on our baby. She’s been here for us whenever we’ve hit a road block, and I don’t know if I’d still be breastfeeding without her support. Thank you for everything, Kristina!

My birth experience and the first week of my baby’s life were somewhat traumatic, due to an unexpected C-section and nicu stay, which unfortunately also greatly impacted my ability to breastfeed. By the time I saw Kristina, I was about to give up not only with attempting to breastfeed but on pumping as well, and had resigned myself to formula (not wrong with that, but that was not my original goal). Kristina came to our home and immediately reassured me on so many levels. She completely got where I was coming from emotionally, put no pressure on me, and put both me and baby at ease. She was able to show me different positions, and helped my baby latch and feed beautifully. She helped me feel like I could still try and reach my goal of breastfeeding right when I was at my lowest and came up with a plan to help me reach that goal. I saw her when I was at my lowest post partum and she gave me such hope!
